Six Simple Ideas to Make Your Week Easier

Hi friends,

Today, as we reflect on the events that occurred 15 years ago, I can’t help but feel a sadness in my heart.

I was only in junior high when hijackers took over the planes causing thousands to lose their lives. I had never heard of the twin towers and when my dad came running in to turn on the tv in disbelief, hoping the videos were somehow fake, I didn’t grasp the gravity of the situation.

We were sent to school as normal, being in Nevada we didn’t know many people in New York. However, all we did was watch the news. There was an heavy weight of fear in the air. The teachers kept discussing the impact and were very vigilant in watching their students that day.

I think we all remember where we were that day. Thinking of this and speaking to my children about it, is an important task. However, it’s not an easy one and I think we may all be struggling this week. So, I’ve come up with six tips to help make your week just a bit easier (hopefully).

1. Make some of these Make-ahead freezer meals. I’m currently making the breakfast burritos, chicken and rice and taquitos. All of these will help me avoid impulse buys and stress.

Here’s how some of mine turned out!
2. Make these delicious Dark Chocolate Energy Bites from The Lucky Pear.

3. Remove your meats from the styrofoam containers and place in plastic bags before freezing. I always put my meat in the freezer. Even some of the best planned dinners just don’t happen and I don’t want it to go to waste. But, placing the meats in their original meat containers are a hassle to remove. When I place them in ziploc bags I can slide them right out to defrost. Because, again, I don’t always defrost them in time. Sometimes they need to be defrosted in the microwave. If you’re concerned about using too many plastic bags, reusable plastic containers work just as well!

4. Put your weekly schedule in your phone. I’m not sure about you, but after kids I’m a forgetful mess. My son loves to tell people how much I forgot. In order to remember things, I write them down. However, sometimes it’s just not enough. Every Sunday I look at my list and add it to my phone with an alarm. Events that occur every week are also given an alarm.

5. Try to wash all your laundry and clean the floors. I know this might seem silly, but if the laundry is washed and the floors clean I feel ready for the week! Now, don’t get me wrong the clothes usually sit in a pile on our couch, but at least they’re clean! I would also recommend a wrinkle removing spray.

6. Use a bento box to pack lunches. When bento boxes became all the rage last year I really didn’t think they were worth the hassle! Then, I was gifted a set and now I’m hooked. I am able to put my son’s lunch together in a matter of minutes and it’s healthy!

There are tons of pages dedicated to the many lunches you can place in bento boxes like this one here.
